3 steps to find out your own skin type

Wash your face

It can be confusing to know what your skin type is if your face is heavily moisturized or when you have makeup on. The first step is to wash your face removing all the traces of makeup, dirt and oil. Simply wash your face with your face wash and pat dry.

Wait for two hours

After you have washed your face, don’t go and apply moisturizer. Wait two hours for your skin to start showing its natural characteristics. And most importantly, do not touch your face.

Check your skin type

Now closely observe your skin and find out which of the following description about different skin types precisely describes your skin.

For your skin to be of normal type, your skin should show no signs of dryness or flaking and when you look closely around your nose and forehead, there should not be traces of excessive oil. Your skin should feel smooth and radiant. If your skin matches the description, consider yourself lucky. Go for products that are neither too heavy nor too lightweight.

Take a tissue and dab it in the corner of your nose and forehead. Is there grease on your tissue? If there is grease on your tissue and your skin shines, you have oily skin. Because you have large pores, your skin emits larger amount of oil than required. Stick to gel or liquid formulas where your beauty products are concerned.

If your skin feels tight and there are visible flakes on your face, you have dry skin, my friend. Moisturize your skin deeply and use formulas that have moisturizing properties.

It might be a little to determine your skin type if you have combination skin type. Basically, your skin will exhibit all of the three qualities mentioned above in different areas. Your skin might be oily around your t-zone and dry elsewhere. You will need to take care of using the correct products for different places. Use lightweight moisturizer where your skin is dry and gel or liquid formulas for places that are oily.
